Father-In-Law's Bondurant Driving School Experience

We gave my Father-In-Law a ticket to Bondurant Driving School for his 60th birthday. He had 4 days of schooling and driving from June 1st - June 4th. He had a wonderful time. He kept telling us how excited, happy, and exhausted he was.

Here he is in his Corvette... his son would be proud.

They practicted accident avoidance where the lights at the end told them which way to turn at the last minute, avoiding the cones at the end.

End of the 1st day, he got a picture with his car and the little Bondurant Bear that is in the women's bathroom.
On the 3rd day, we went again. This time he was driving in a formula car.

We were in the flag box getting a bird's eye view.

They raced around the track and were flagged in when they were finished for that time.

Wedding Dress shopping with Angela

Today I went wedding dress shopping with her to help her look at dresses with her 2 friends.

Who says Arizona doesn't have Fall?

So we had to blow the leaves out of our front yard today because we couldn't see our rocks any more. We were a little surprised to see just how many leaves had accumulated in our yard.

If we had grass, I would have piled them up and jumped in!

We filled the trash can! There was only one or two bags in the bottom. (Granted, it was full before I smashed them all down).

Dale's 60th Birthday!

My father-in-law had his 60th birthday today. I collected well wishes and thoughts from friends and family and made a little chipboard album for him. He has recently purchased a viper so I made the book in the shape of the viper logo. Here are some pictures.

A Service Christmas

So, my family decided that we would give as Christmas gifts this year, gifts of service. We started on Monday with my grandparents down in Tucson. We went to visit and asked my aunt, grandma and grandpa what they would like as their service.

My grandma asked my mom to dust her books and bookshelves:

It can be tough work!

She asked Angela and I to dust her china cabinet and all of the items in it.

It was great because she would tell us about each piece as we were cleaning it. Some of it had great history and some of it made us nervous because of the wonderful sentimental value it had.

Angela, mom and I also raked out grandma and grandpa's walkway rocks to smooth them out and sort the rocks that didn't belong there.

Nathaniel gave his gift to my aunt. He cleaned out her engine bay. She was very happy and said that her mechanic would want to hug him.

On Tuesday, Mom and I got our gifts from our family. They came to our classrooms and helped us for a few hours. I am amazed at what 4 people can get done in a classroom in just 2 hours!

On Wednesday, we went over to my in-laws to give Nathaniel his gift. He wanted us to help do yard work for his parents. So we chopped cactus, pruned a tree and hula hoed their yard.

This little guy was wondering what we were doing and a little upset... he didn't want us to ruin his home of fairy duster.

Still to come is my mom and dad's gift of cleaning their front room. Nathaniel is going to bring our carpet cleaner and do their carpets.

The gift for my sister will be mom and I giving her recipes and making some of our favorite dishes with her.

This was all wonderful because we got to spend time together during the holiday season and serve one another. Plus, it didn't cost anything.

GoDaddy Party 2008

Well, GoDaddy wasn't going to let a little economy downturn ruin their fun. They spent over $2 million dollars on their company party. They even flew in the employees from Colorado and Iowa for this one.

It was held at Chase Field (I call it BOB still) and we were all on the field. We got a table and Nathaniel found some of his friends so we had a good group to sit with.

never does anything small. Of course he gave away money (with the help of Danika Patrick)

and he had a comedian...

Sinbad... He was hilarious and very quick witted. He kept making comments to the audience and asking the women what the wondered about men so he could straighten us out...

There were 2 bands:

38 Special and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. I had heard some of (ok 1) Joan Jett's songs but not too much from 38 special.

There were also games and RC cars, of course Nathaniel was happy. We ate dinner and had a great time. Nathaniel and his friend Christine:

kept bugging our server for Dr. Pepper all night. She was a good sport and even posed with Iggy at the end of the night.

Then at the end there was a laser show and they let off fireworks inside of Bank One Ballpark.

Never a dull moment with GoDaddy.

'Tis the Season

So as soon as we got back from Thanksgiving with Grandma, I had Nathaniel take me to our storage unit to get our or Christmas decorations! I couldn't wait to get everything up! The thing I was the most excited about was our new nativity that we bought up in Sedona this summer. We had been searching for the longest time for a nativity that suited us. Finally, we found one. I think you can see why...

It is made from a Century Aloe plant and made in the Phillipeans.

Then we also put lights on our house. Just a simple strand around the eaves of our roof. Then we added a strand around our windows. We spiced it up a little with a penguin above our garage...

And a reindeer in our yard (just added today)

Door Decorating at Playa

So our PTSO asked all of us to decorate our doors for Halloween and they would have a contest judged by our principal. My class and the class next to mine decided to do a pumpkin patch theme.

We used the book, "Spookley the Square Pumpkin" as our muse. That is what the scarecrow is reading.

In the story, Spookley, who is square saves other pumpkins because of his shape and so the farmer decides to grow all different kinds of pumpkins, like so...

My class did the clouds and the class next door did the pumpkins. I did the scarecrow.

Believe me, this display is going to stay up well after Halloween! It took a lot of time. We didn't win but here are pictures of other classes that did.

New Toy

Ok, so the sickness is spreading. I have wanted a fun car to drive and I have always loved older mustangs from the 60's. But my husband's sickness is spreading to me and I have fallen in love with the C3 Corvettes (they're the really sexy looking ones from the 70's and early-early 80's). Well, needless to say, the Corvette crazed husband found one for me, (actually he found a lot) but this one was the best price for the great condition it was in.

It also has some pieces on it that give it its own style.

So, we bought it and went to the DMV, MVD, whatever you like to say, and had it registered. I always liked the idea of having historic plates on an old car like that so I asked the gentleman how old the car had to be to get historic plates. He said only 25 years, so we got the copper historic plates!

This one is MINE!

School is in session

Ok, obviously you can tell that school is in session because of my posts, or lack there of. This past weekend, Nathaniel and I took a cruise down Route 191, previously known as Route 666. It is rightfully named, Devil's Highway. It is a blast with curves, twists, and this time... snow!

Little Projects of Mine

This past Saturday, I had a church activity where we got to make home projects. I was in charge of the Christmas cards and getting all of those packets together. Luckily, they didn't need much help so I was able to do a few other projects for myself.

This one is a family board. I chose my colors and papers to best fit my house. This is a 2' x 2' board. There will eventually be a family picture in the middle. This project originated from Michelle Devine at Devine Memories. It has made its' way through many church "Super Saturdays" as we like to call them.

This project is made out of a glass block and vinyl. I love the little snowman. Eventually, I will put a string of colored lights inside. I love him!

Angela's 20th Birthday!

Well, my sister turns 20 on July 22nd. 20 is a pretty big deal; 2 centuries old, not a teenager anymore...

So I made a book for her with "words of wisdom" from family and friends with their picture.

Ok, I need to catch up a little.

At the end of June, I traveled to Utah with my dad and sister for a family reunion. As soon as we got there (as is custom) my grandmother welcomed us with "It's a party, it's a party!" and then promptly put us to work.

I don't think I sat down after that moment. Except that I did get to go to the movies with my cousin Jake and his wife Nikki. Check out his link... this is my little claim to fame that he is a guest DJ on a radio station up there.

The family reunion was great, especially because it seems to be reason enough to pull everyone together. So I was able to see just about all of my cousins that weekend.

Camping in the Great Outdoors

Well, we decided to make another break for cooler weather up on the Mogollon Rim just east of Payson. We found a great little campsite away from everyone else where we got to relax and read. I had the book "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer which Nathaniel continued to steal from me. Luckily, I won it in a bet and got to read it.

As the sun was setting each night we could hear elk. One evening we heard a pack of coyotes not too far from our campsite. Other than the coyotes and elk there wasn't much around (thankfully, as I heard there are bears in that area), except for the occasional butterfly.

But we had a nice, relaxing, cooler (it was WARM during the day) time as we got to get away for awhile.

Sedona

The weekend of June 12th - 15th, Nathaniel and I headed up for cooler weather in Sedona, AZ. Little did we know that cooler was 92 degrees instead of 109 degrees. We'll take it! We stayed at the Los Abrigados Lodge with this beautiful view of the Sedona red rocks. We got to be tourists, lounge around, and basically enjoy the beautiful scenery. One of the days we went to Tlaquepaque (one of my favorite places in Sedona). There are shops there but I go for the beautiful architecture. It is styled after the traditional Mexican village of Tlaquepaque in Mexico.

While we were there, we went into a little Christmas shop to browse around. We have been looking for over 4 years for a Nativity set that we both like. Well, just inside the door, we saw it.

It is different, but fits us rather well.

On our last day we left Sedona and drove up to Flagstaff and walked around the NAU campus to see the new changes.

On our way to meet some friends, we passed quite a few Corvettes. We wondered what they were up to and decided to follow them. Well, first we had to turn around and find them, so Nathaniel thought about where they would be cruising to... either the road up to Snowbowl or to the Grand Canyon. We found them before they turned up the road to Snowbowl so we decided to follow.

When we got up to the top, we saw about 26 Corvettes total. We climbed out of our corvette and about 7 or 8 of the people came over. They immediately noticed that we were not part of their Corvette club (it could have been the fact that we didn't have name tags on). They were so nice and were excited that we followed them up. They were a club from Prescott and talked to us for quite awhile. They were getting ready to go up the ski lift to the top for lunch so we said our goodbyes.

Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban Concert

Well, Friday night, Michele calls me and asks what I was doing the next day. I said nothing and she asked if I wanted to go to the Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban concert free. Well I had to think about it, ok not really, YES!

It was at the University of Phoenix stadium where the Cardinals play, so a HUGE venue. Our tickets were in the nose bleed seats:

But who can complain, we got these for FREE!

Both Michele and I had seen Kenny Chesney before. That wasn't the real reason I was excited. I was there to see Gary Allan and Keith Urban. Michele was really nice and bought me a Keith Urban shirt.

Keith Urban definitely put on a better show than Kenny Chesney so it made me love him even more!

I love Gary Allan because he sings a couple of my favorite songs:

"Life Ain't Always Beautiful."

and

a remake of "Best I Ever Had."

See, even from our seats, we could see pretty well (with the help of my digital camera with my larger zoom lens and crop and enlarge...

Route 666 drive

Well, now it is formally named Route 191. Must have been some difficulty with the other name. Nathaniel and I, along with his parents, took a little cruise this past weekend.

After Nathaniel purchased one of his dream cars, the white corvette:

His father started pining after his own dream car, the Shelby Cobra:

So, we found a great place that rents out cute little dream cars such as this one. The boys planned a drive on Route 666. It is a beautiful twisty road inbetween Eager and Safford near the New Mexico border. I jumped at the chance to take my camera, get out of town, and spend quality time with family.

Happy Spring Break! I am busy working at the scrapbook store and catching up on school stuff. I am also scrapbooking a lot this week.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year. As always, being the old married couple that we are, we stayed up watching movies (actually it was the Heroes TV Series on DVD) then paused it to watch the ball drop, made a toast, finished our DVD watching and went to bed. So thrilling!

I have been enjoying these last 2 weeks being off of school. Nathaniel has taken some days off to spend time with me as well. Needless to say I feel accomplished because we have gotten a lot of things done around the house.

I hope everyone is well.

'Tis the Season!

I love December for the holiday lights, Christmas trees up in my house, and for the weather starting to cool off.

We put up 3 trees this year (only because our tallest one is 4 ft.). So we have a 4ft tree, a 3.5 ft tree and a miniscule tree.

On the 3.5 ft tree I have all of my ornaments that my grandmother made me. Every year, she give all of the cousins (and her children) a ceramic ornament that she painted. So I have one for every year that I have been alive. She also recently gave me the ornaments for the next 8 years.

I wrapped those and I am going to put one under the tree each year. Check it out!

Autism Walk

Today I participated in the Walk Now for Autism at Tempe Town Lake. I raised $281.00 thanks to help from everyone! Devine Memories (scrapbook store) walked together for Autism (we are in the red shirts). We had a great time. The walk was a 5K in beautiful Arizona November weather of 90 degrees. It was fabulous! I got to meet Luis Gonzalez (now with the Los Angelas Dodgers) and Orlando Hudson (Arizona Diamondbacks). There were out there supporting us as well!

Ahhh.. School

Well, I guess you can tell that school has started. I have not put a post since before it started. Well, we are now on fall break. I was hoping to update my blog more than that.
School is in full swing. I have a great class this year. I have 24 kids which is less than I have had in a while.
Nothing much new on the home front. Nathaniel and I are planning a trip with some friends to Six Flags at the end of this month. Just surviving until then!

Harry Potter Geek

I did it! I went last night to Borders and got my copy of the final Harry Potter book. I went with my sister, who dressed up like Luna Lovegood. We had a blast. They gave us wrist bands so we didn't have to stand in line and then they called us by the colors at midnight. I didn't get my book until 1:15am. I also got the box that the books were shipped in. They did costume contests, trivia contests, and raffles for a signed poster and 1st spot in line. I tried to read the 1st part of it in line but I couldn't concentrate on it. Who knows how long people were there!

A New Beginning

Well I did it, I finally started a Blog. I have a friend all the way on the other side of the country who asked if I had one yet and she wanted to see pictures from my last trip, but no way to show her.
